Youtube 1980’s News Article Review

The above video is of a BBC news article from 1980, and is of John Lennon’s shooting.

This is just one of a number of video’s I have watched in researching for the first artefact that will be produced, which will be the production of a short news article from the early 1980’s using the technology and methodology of that period.

The following are observations made on the video:

• The video quality is of a relatively poor standard, certainly a noticeable difference from more modern news video footage.
• The simplicity of the camera shots.
• The footage is filmed with a handheld camera, and without the use of a tripod, which can be noticed by the less than steady stance of the shots.
• Some of the transitions between shots are not smooth, and the timing of the cutting between the shots could be of a better timing.
• The content of the news itself is very factual. What is being reported is based on evidence and not speculation, and the news article is very informative.
