Holding Pattern Final Transition Effect

Arguably the biggest shot of the film is in the final scene, when Bogdan is on the grass verge and sits down, when the audience see Bogdan for who he really is.

The transition effect shows Bogdan in different clothes, and also changes the music to alter the whole mood of the scene.

Sound Added To Holding Pattern

Sound was added to Holding Pattern in an interesting way. Initially I was extremely unsure about the sound, because the script did not have any spoken words, and I wanted the visual images to speak for themselves.

Whilst I felt this worked, as the whole visual film was made first without the aid sound (apart from background sound), I still felt that a soundtrack of some sort did need to be added to take the film to effectively the next dimension.
The sound was created using a few instruments, mainly a keyboard, and a variety of tunes and melodic sounds were created, and I composed and played these with thoughts to the visual footage in mind. A number of different pieces of music were played and recorded, and then placed onto the computer.

The music was then added to adobe premier and then with trial and error, was added to the timeline in coherence with the visual counterparts. The music that was originally recorded was a lot longer in length than was needed for the visual clips, so the sound had to be shortened to be added to the film.

There were 5 different types of music that I felt the film needed;

• Introduction music

• Daydreaming effect music

• Reality loneliness music

• Reality more upbeat music with other people

• Ending music

The different types of music work well within these different parts of the film, I also feel they add to the visual images to alter the mood for the different scenes, in the way I want the audience to feel.

Filming for Holding Pattern Completed

On Wednesday 7th March, the shooting for Holding Pattern was set to be completed. The equipment was picked up first thing in the morning, and I packed the final camera away at 23.40. One very long day, but every single shot was completed and whilst there was strict time restraint and a schedule to adhear to, all was filmed and recorded as planned.

I went out on the next morning with the microphone to do a bit of sound recording, literally sat in the park with the microphone held to the air to record some general background noise.

The biggest test of filming was in the City Ground, recording 'Bogdan' watching a football match. With constant contact with Nottingham Forest, they let me record during a reserve game, and this was done so with their allowance, so I would like to thank them.
