In need of some inspiration, I have been looking on the DepicT website, which is also where we will be entering our 90 second narratives, and have found time to evaluate some of the current films on there:
From Light to Light in the Night
Dir: Mike Chan
A very bizarre place to start, this is a so called “abstract animation”. A very peculiar 90 film which in my mind offers little in the way of a narrative especially in the first half of the film. However the sound effects are quite nice, and possibly 90 seconds was just too short to get the story across.

The Equater Complex
Dir: Henrik Dahle
This is more the level of work I was expecting. An intriguing setting is noticed early on, and the realization beat where the actor puts his pencil through the floor worked really well as I know it instantly got my attention. I have taken note of the good use and level of sound as well as the differing camera views which add a sense of paranoia in the film. The only shame is that the resources and time the director had would have been a lot greater than what I have!

Dir: Chris Vincze
This film shows a very good example of impressive editing. The setting is in one room but this is not what matters. What is impressive about this film is that it is very simplistic in casting and setting, but the editing makes the whole piece come together.
