Artefact: Six Evaluation Submitted Online

Artefact: Six is an over view of the previous five artefacts, and successfully discusses how the role of a news gatherer has changed, specifically over the last 25 years.

The artefact provides more in depth knowledge and understanding of the information that was researched in previous artefacts, and relates the topic of research for each of the previous five artefacts, to how it has effected the news gatherer and the role of a news gatherer.

Two very important interviews with both the BBC East Midlands news editor, and with a BBC East Midlands broadcast journalist were extremely important for this artefact. The interviews provided a greater understanding on the role of a news gatherer, and the specific changes which have occurred to the role in recent years.

Unfortunately this artefact contains the vast majority of information which should have been included in previous artefacts, however this research module has taught me that whilst I was progressing through each artefact, my initial research methods was incorrect. Whilst initially doing a vast amount of research on a broad subject matter, instead of narrowing down the information to answer the specific research question, I continued to research the broad subject area and this had hindered my progress in each artefact to relate the research to the specific research question.
Realising the error of my ways, this sixth artefact (whilst an overview of the previous artefacts), has also expanded the research from the previous attempts to answer the initial research question, and whilst relating it to previous artefacts, has shown a greater depth of knowledge.

This artefact has established that whilst initially thinking the development in technology had a direct impact in the change of the role of a news gatherer, it is a much more complex situation, as the technology has not been the only impact.
